DO NOT DISREGARD THE PEOPLE IN THE NAME OF "DIPLOMACY"
It has been decided to invite the Heads of the SAARC Countries for the swearing in ceremony of the Government to be headed by Narendra Modi in Delhi on 26th May 2014. The invitation, it seems have been extended to nurture a friendly relationship with the neighbours and as a part of "Diplomacy".
The invitation extended to Rajapakshe, the President of Sri Lanka has evoked criticism and controversy among the politicians and the people of Tamil Nadu. Congress has welcomed the move as some thing in tune with the Diplomacy, which needs to be strengthened in the interest of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Today, Rajapakshe and his regime is summoned before the World community for an independent international investigation for the alleged War Crimes and Crimes against humanity which ended up in decimation of more than 150,000 Eelam Tamils in the Genocidal war. The resolution to this effect has been passed in the recently concluded UN Human Rights Council held in Mar 2014.
In fact, this was an outcome of the concerted efforts put in by the International community, the Human Rights organisations, the world over, the Tamil Diaspora and the last but not the least, the Government of Tamil Nadu and the People of Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu State Assembly, passed a couple of resolutions, reflecting the concern of the people of Tamil Nadu, that the Indian Government ought to prevail upon the international community to initiate independent international investigation against Sri Lanka on the alleged War Crimes and even declared economic blockade against Sri Lanka to make it submit for the international investigation.
It is in this backdrop, the invitation extended to Mr.Rajapakshe is being questioned and criticised. The act of Delhi, in the name of Diplomacy, unmindful of the concern and sentiments of the Human Rights defenders and the people of Tamil Nadu, is highly condemnable.
If Delhi resorts to something, in the name of nurturing good relationship with its neighbours, being indifferent towards the concerns of the people of its own country, it will not pave the way for an healthy foreign policy. An healthy foreign policy ought to be and must be, a natural and logical extension of one's domestic policy.
Similarly, if Delhi is upholding the principles of federalism, in its letter and spirit, extending a red carpet welcome to Rajapakshe, whose government is responsible for the killings of more than 500 fishermen and who headed a genocidal war against Eelam Tamils decimating more than 1,50,000 of them, is highly condemnable.
Moreover, Rajapakshe regime essentially denies the devolution of power and the much aspired Swaraj of the Eelam Tamils, which is the only way to pave for a lasting solution for their existential issues, Whereas, the indifferent political attitude and approach of Rajapakshe regime does not facilitate a lasting solution for the suffering Eelam Tamils.
Hence, Tamil Nadu people proclaims that the invitation extended by Delhi to Rajapakshe is an act denigrating the people of Tamil Nadu, disrespecting the Government of Tamil Nadu and demeaning the human dignity. I am also reiterates and condemn that it is against the very spirit of Federalism.
also vehemently demands that the Foreign policy and the related actions of our country ought to be structured reflecting the needs and aspirations of the domestic people as a whole.
