A narcissist shines brightest when others are watching, when there’s an audience. They won’t “glow” when they don’t have to — they don’t have the energy for it. Narcissists excel in first impressions. They dress well. They speak well. They hold eye contact. They ask you about you, your family. They’ll shower you with compliments — and attention. Messages. Calls. Dinners. Gifts. It’s called love-bombing.

The thing is, though, they don’t do all this because they want to spoil you. Or even know about you. Well, they do want to know about you — but not for the reasons you think. They want information they can store to use when the time is right, that they can use to keep you under their control.

They do it because they want to be in a relationship with you, perhaps for your looks, status, intelligence, connections. Because being with you will enhance THEIR lives.
